Lane Bonertz

Community Advocate

Growing up in Southern Alberta, Lane’s approach to advocacy was instilled by a rural upbringing in ranching and agriculture. It is these smalltown moments of witnessing people come together in times of need that fuel his passion to improve access and resources for 2SLGBTQ+ people in rural and remote areas. He is a Two-Spirit member of Piikani Nation, using his lived experience to contribute to sexual health programming and research that centres Indigenous identities, cultures and experiences. Lane also supports initiatives around cultural revitalization and storytelling, ensuring that the stories of our ancestors exist for future generations. Lane has volunteered in various roles in 2SLGBTQ+ support, as welll as HIV and sexually transmitted blood borne infection (STBBI) treatment and prevention. He believes that knowledge and access to resources uplifts community. Lane is currently based in Montréal / Tiohtià:ke.
