Chris & Mikara

Parents

Mikara and Chris have found themselves far from their Nehiyaw, British, Ukrainian homelands, in the interior of B.C. on the unceded Secepemc territory. Humbled by the gifts of their children and all the Two-Spirit and trans people who have patiently held space for them. They share their learning journey from fear and ignorance to realizing the honesty and freedom to be found when gender diversity is understood. Their work with families, alongside them as rural community members, is powered by the essential needs for inclusion and diversity. They shared that with scant resources, everyone is needed in building a strong community and, in order to do this, we need diverse perspectives, unique talents, and to strengthen the sense of belonging for all. Their work also acknowledges that the ongoing harms of colonization include the misunderstanding and suppression of Two-Spirit knowledge.
