LG

Counsellor, parent and Two-Spirit person

LG is a Two-Spirit counsellor and parent living on the occupied, unceded and ancestral homelands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations. A Métis (Red River) adoptee with mixed Indigenous and white settler ancestry, LG grew up in an English/Scottish household with very little accurate information about birth family roots and ancestry. Forever curious about ancestral ties, LG has been on a long journey of learning and ‘coming in’ to selfhood and Métis community, later in life. Learning ancestral information, meeting birth family members, connecting to culture and ceremony and beginning to weave together ruptured family ties, have all been gifts and critical elements in LG's journey as a tastawiyiniw or "in-between" person. In LG's professional life, working as a clinical counsellor alongside many gender diverse and queer young people and their families has provided invaluable learning and inspiration. Witnessing parents and caregivers unlearn rigid ideas about gender through accessing counselling and support, in order to show up for their young folks expressing gender diversity, continues to be an inspiration and privilege. As a Two-Spirit person, pronouns are complex. As such, just ‘LG’ works fine.
